A World in Black and White

Black and white can be stylish, elegant, glamorous, minimalist, or whatever ambiance you would like to create. It can be to cold for some, or the perfect base for others. It can be a perfect background for as well a modern interior as a more contemporary classical inspired home.

A black and white interior can be, I agree, to cold. Once you start combining different structures, motives and patterns you start adding a lot of personality to your interior. Play with different shapes and sizes to make your room look more interesting.

Round shapes, very trendy this year, will make the contrast softer. And white can come in a lot of shades, I would not suggest to combine your black with optical white. There are a lot of wallpapers in black and white now in the latest collections. Scenic wallpapers are the way to go.

Natural materials, such as marble, in black and white will look spectacular. Combine the marble the kitchen with a dark stained wood and show the structure of the veines than your black and white kitchen won’t look cold but have a lot of character. When you use a lot of white or black in the home a wooden floor in a natural wood tone can bring in a lot of warmth. Same for handcrafted objects that will show the human touch of the one who made them.

Black and white interior can be very stylish. The combination of a classical architecture with modern design furniture is the perfect match. You will have the best of both worlds. Combine mat and shiny surface in your interior. White and black shiny surface will feel much colder than their mat version, so balance them out well.

The bedroom should be a place to relax. So how can we make that this room look does not look to cold? Add structure by using a wool blanket on the bed, heavy linen curtains, a silk rug and you feel that those subtle differences in material will make the difference. Add objects with a lot of personality. A wallpaper, a mirror or an armchair with a beautiful upholstery. Flowers will be a perfect way to add a feminine touch.

You have to be a strong fan of black and white to have a bathroom in this combination. Maybe when you visit a hotel. It feels very architectural.
