We are already mid of January. The excitement of the holidays and the beginning of the new year are slowly melting away. And we want to start something new. A new hobby, a new look, to change something in our home or more creativity in our life. So lets start this year in a creative way.

Give that old piece of furniture that you have a second life. Maybe you have that closet waiting to get out of the house, why not turn it into a unique piece. Specially for the kid’s room this a great option to create a room with a lot of personality. You can keep it simple with some graphical motives or stripes or get inspired by some folk flowers. If you just start to get more creativity in your life than I would suggest to go slowly; choose one color in combination with white and add some stripes to your furniture. If your project is to challenging you could get demotivated and all the creativity is put aside for this year.

Yes, go bold and start painting the rooms in a bold color. A warm yellow will bring the sunshine inside all year round. Now that the dark days of winter are around this will cheer up your winter blues. Always buy a sample quantity of the color you would like to have. A color can look completely different from one room to the other. Doing a test will also give you the guaranty you really like the color and want to paint the whole room with it. A whole room seems to much? Go for an accent wall.

Wallpaper is trendy and will stay around. Add some wallpaper in an unexpected way and it will bring joy each time you open the closet. In the entrance dressing it will give you the feeling your are home. Why not the kitchen cabinets or in the pantry? Those small addictions of color and prints, hidden, can make a big change. It are the small things in life that can make the difference.

You have some curtains you want to change? Give those simple curtains a fresh look by adding some trimmings. A touch of color will make you love them again. Look for a color you have in the room, it can be the sofa, or a color taken from your rug, for the perfect match. Your local craft store will have a nice selection of ribbons or trimmings. Or take a look on a flea market to find an old fashioned trimming. And this idea can be used as well to give your cushions a new look.

Get inspired by the keys in the old hotels, add a small tassel to your keys to add a small touch of elegance to your doors. Same if your chest of drawers or closet are having a key. You can find a huge selection of colors and styles. All depending on the style of the room or the colors you love, you can go simple, more colorful. Opt for modern, minimalist or very classical.
Re-upholster your headboard with a printed fabric to change the look of your room completely. You will feel as you would be on a holiday in a beautiful hotel. The bedroom is a room where, in general, you don’t have to many pieces of furniture. A wallpaper is the first thing to go for when you want to add something more special. A more designed head board will make it more elegant and sophisticated.
By changing the frames of your art works you can create a complet new look. Cover them with fabric or wallpaper. Another option is to simply paint them in a color.. Maybe you can find a wallpaper with a small motive and just change the passe partout. You see, one idea and different ways to realize them.
