Pantone's Color of the Year: Ultra Violet

Pantone couldn't choose a more inventive, imaginative, and dramatic color than Ultra Violet. A shade which communicates originality and visionary thinking.

In December everybody is waiting impatiently for Pantone to announce its new color of the year.

Executive Director of the Pantone Institute, Leatrice Eisenman, says "We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination, It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come."

Ultra Violet for the modern bohemian

Ultra violet stands for confidence, innovation. Going your own way, not taking care of trends, combining the colors and the styles as an expression of your personality. Aiming for a higher goal, rebellious, following your intuition, pursuing a better world.

Ultra Violet for the minimalist

The minimalist style we associate immediately with white, grey and natural colors. Lets give it a touch of something, a sparkle of life. Ultra violet is a color which shows a lot of taste, not to worry to go to colorful. But not more than one element in the room.

Ultra violet for the art lover

There is no color more creative than ultra violet, a blue-based purple shade.  A very intense color which can be quite artificial. Transparency, plexi, colored glass are perfect as a material for an artistic expression.

Ultra Violet for the classical at heart

In history, violet and purple have long been associated with royalty. So no better choice than ultra violet for a classical interior. As I said already before that this color can be artificial, on the other hand we see this color in nature: amazing flowers, butterflies, and precious stones. They are showing us how beautiful this can be.

A mix between the passion of red and the calmness of blue, a color which makes us dream away, to escape reality, to dream of a romantic future. Combine it with crystals, antiques, mirrors.

Ultra violet for the beauty queen

Glamorous, feminine, elegant, mysterious and unexpected color for the bathroom. For sure not for those who are afraid to make a statement. "A singular matte purple on the lips or nails makes a bold statement of non-conformity, while softly blended metallics and shimmers in ultra violet transform the eyes into windows to the cosmos," Pantone noted.
