What do we need in summer? Not a lot as we spend most of our time, in the weekends, outdoor. A house in the countryside, close to a lake or the sea side. Architecture can be simply, rustic or modern. It will be the materials that make this house feel as a home. Natural colors, natural materials and refined details. No need to look for perfection as imperfection will add so much charm here.

What we are looking for is a welcoming, refreshing and cozy home where we can leave all the stress of the week or months behind us. Not to much pieces of furniture or decoration. A neutral color palette will relax us from the moment we arrive. Time to recharge our energy, reflect on what was and what we are looking forward to. Enjoy time with family and friends. Time to read or start a new hobby.

Materials are simple and evoke a feeling of being united with the nature around us. To see and feel the fibres of the wood, the cold touch of stone. Maybe you are not to much in the mood to cook, but for those who really enjoy cooking, even that we will slow down in summer, an amazing set of cooking pots and pans will only enhance the joy. Fresh herbs will make every meal feel as summer.

There is no better season than summer to enjoy a long lunch around the table, as it is much to warm to be outdoor. Handmade spoons and plates to serve a fresh salad, a fish prepared on the grill. What do you want more? Maybe a glass of white wine.

No better material as natural stone for the bathroom. Simple lines and a mix of stones, different tones and cuts to make this a refreshing corner in the house. Brass faucets will make this room look refined. It can look maybe to minimalist for those who love a more romantic style, feel free to add a classical free standing bathtub. And don’t forget to add some fresh herbs in the shower, the water splashes will release their perfume.

The days are hot, the nights are still to warm. We don’t need more than a comfortable bed and nice bedlinen in cotton or linen Everything more you will have in the room will only keep the warmth of the day. Look for some nice curtains or blinds as a siesta on Sunday afternoon will be for sure on the agenda..

We will spend as much as possible time outdoors at the moments the temperature is not to high. Decorate your outdoor space as you do your rooms inside. Plants in beautiful vases, big old glass bottles, candles for the long evenings.

So what is the essence of the relaxing summer retreat

  • natural colors

  • natural materials

  • keep it simple

  • not to much furniture or decoration

  • you will be here to relax and enjoy

Enjoy your summer!
