Where and How to add Art in your Home

When we decorate our home we add some art pieces, at the end of our decorating project. And it doesn’t have to be art with a big A. Holiday pictures, family pictures, a poster, your kid’s drawings. Acquiring the right art works comes in time, you have to discover a piece of art, you have to fall in love with it, specially when it comes with a certain price tag.

And where can you add art in your home? I would say everywhere, starting from your entrance lobby. How to add art in your home? The way you feel it, it can reflect your more bohemian side and you will simple mix it with books and other objects on a console table. Your art work can be framed or you can hang your painting even without a frame. You can’t discuss beauty or art, it is very personal.

We add art in our living room, bedroom, but did you ever think of adding some paintings in your kitchen? I did it a few times in my interior design projects and it just uplifts the room. It gets more than just a room where you will prepare some food and maybe have breakfast on the run in the morning. Where to add art in the kitchen? I love to hang it above the kitchen sink, doing the dishes gets much more interesting. You can also add it on open shelves, in between some jars and porcelain bowls.

The bathroom is another place where you wouldn’t think of decorating with some art pieces. Take a look how it can change this room. Specially the powder room should have something to make this room more poetic, or feminine, or artsy. Even a small sketch in a nice frame will make a big change.

A big painting above the bed will look amazing. Keep in mind that this is a room that should reflect a relaxing atmosphere. Select an artwork in the same colors as you used for the room. In case you want to make more of a statement and have a painting in your favorite colors than keep in mind that not all colors are fitting the bedroom. Blue tones, green, pink and lilac tones will enhance the relaxing atmosphere. Avoid red and orange as they will give you more energy and bring up your blood pressure.

Picture walls are very trendy. You will see them allover the internet and in interior design magazines. This can be challenging. How do you start to select the different works? Keep the colors in harmony. Black and white pictures will be the easiest to start with. Print your holiday pictures or family pictures in black and white for a stylish end result. Make a selection in pastel tones or you are more for a pictures wall with sparkling colors. Important is to have a balance in colors.

combine different dimensions for your picture wall

More difficult is looking for the right dimensions and how to combine them.

size combinations picture wall

Same size and simply in a row. Perfect option for a corridor, above the bed or the buffet in the dining room. Make it more interesting and play with different sizes, it will be the accent in the room.

I would suggest to cut the dimensions you have of the different frames in paper and install them on the wall to find the perfect spot for each art work. It will be less stressful. This can help you also to find the perfect size for the frames if you will bring the artwork to a specialist to fix them in a nice frame. Depending on your style you can have all frames the same, in this case the frame will be simple and don’t ask any attention. You can also mix them in color and style, if you are courageous.

A staircase can be a boring way up to the next floor. Adding here some nice pictures can make even this area of the house look interesting. A bit more challenging but it will be worth it.

Now that we started to work more and more from home, you maybe invested in decorating this space. Adding a great art work can make you feel more inspired during the day. A bold painting can make a boring office in a stylish room, where meetings can get to another level. We don’t want no longer the white meeting rooms, we want a meeting or office room that shows a certain style.

You have a tall painting? Just put it on the floor, create an artistic corner by adding some plants or statues. Your reading corner will inspire you to do more creative activities.

Before you start adding a lot of colourful drawings in the nursery you can first decorate your walls with their first garments and shoes. They grow quickly, it will be nice memories every time you enter the room. And I’m sure they will cherish them once they are grown up too.

let the art museum inspire you and follow the trend to add a mural in your home

You love those classical paintings in the museum but your budget is not allowing you to buy a real beautiful classical painting. Not yet, maybe one day. What about creating one wall with a wow effect? There are a lot of companies now where you can make a selection, classical painting, modern photography or nature inspired and have it printed on the dimensions of your wall.
