Your house is a concrete construction; a building in which you live. Your home is a place that is filled with your personality. A house provides shelter but a home is where you can truly express yourself. The property you live in is maybe not your dream home but the interior can be an expression of who you are. It should be a reflection of the peoples living in it.
Let's make your home the place that you fall in love with every time you enter. Let your heart, and not your brain, speak in the creation of your home.
Decorating your home is not always easy. It can be an overwhelming task. So, how do you begin? What makes our house our home? Think of the things that make you happy, relaxed, joyful, and filled with positive energy. Those are the things that you should surround yourself with. These are the things that reflect your personality. Although you can find inspiration in magazines, don’t just copy what you see but use it as a model to find your desires.
What color makes you feel happy or relaxed?
If someone asked, what is your color? Do you have a clear answer? If you don't, it could be because of the mood that you are in. Some of us love to be surrounded by strong colors to fill ourselves with energy. This reflects the sunny character, the love for exotic travels, or simply the joy of life. Others want to come home in a minimalist ambiance to leave the hectic daily life behind and to find peace and relaxation. So, think about a nice color harmony that fits your personality and the state of mind that you desire. Maybe you love color, but not too much, accessories such as pillows, blankets or vases are good additions for the creation of a colorful ambiance without being afraid to use too much or too strong colors.
Invest in comfortable sofa and excellent mattresses
Comfort is essential to feel at home. There are two things that you should invest in: the sofa and the mattresses. You want to come home and just fall in your sofa to read or watch a movie. A good mattress is needed for your health, a good night sleep and waking up without aching body. They can be expensive but a suitable one is certainly worth the cost. You can still buy the rug later or invest in another coffee table.
Bring in nature.
Plants can bring life into each room of the home. They clean the air and provide a healthier and refreshing environment. For the kitchen, little herb garden can be created with potted herbs. Having your home-grown herbs can add to the joy of cooking and the flavor of the foods. Everyone love to have flowers, but most of us wait to have them presented to us, so buy fresh flowers for you. A beautifully arranged bouquet or a simple bouquet obtained from the flower shop will present joy and color, and also be admired in the home. Take a walk on your free time and collect some flowers and leaves in the fields, these will introduce the seasons into the home.
Buy beautiful objects and materials to work with.
Every day we use the same objects for cooking and cleaning. These items should be admired and brings some joy when they are being used, so don’t just buy the cheapest version you can find in the local supermarket. Obtain linen towels, wooden brushes, and handmade kitchen utensils that can be kept in a ceramic pot instead of hidden inside a drawer. Take good care of them, clean after each use with natural soaps, and protect the wooden items with oils.
Food brings people together, dinners create shared memories
Although all of us don’t like to cook, all of us enjoy a good meal. One shared with family or friends even more. A study conducted in England reveals that 43 per cent of us enjoy gathering around the table for a hearty meal. 48 percent agrees that the smell of cooking makes the house warm and inviting. Around the table we create memories; a part of our family heritage. There are many movies that shows that food can bring people together, such as: "Chocolat" - "Babette's Feast" - "The Hundred Foot Journey"
A home should be filled with your favorite aroma: fresh brewed coffee, fresh baked cookies, your preferred dish, scented candles, flowers, etc.
Display the things you love
Some will love to create collections; this can be anything: shells, cats, vinyl, guitars, and books. Don't hide them. Find a way to display them on shelves, in frames, and not in boxes under the bed. You have collected these items because you admire them and they make you happy. Each piece will reminds you of something; your thoughts at the time you observe it, the place from which it was obtained, the person who gave it to you and the occasion for which it was given. A home is a place where we want to surround ourselves with the things that make us happy. If you are not the type to collect things, no problem, just one precious possession can tell as much as an entire collection. It can be the material, the color or the detail which makes you stop each time and admire it. Display the things you love.
Picture wall versus library
All of us have a selection of family pictures and travel pictures printed but not framed. This is the moment to display your memories. Use the same type of frame for all your pictures. Dimensions can be different. Decide where and in what sequence you want to place them. Do you want to share them with everyone visiting or is it more private? This will help you to decide where to install the picture wall. Some options are a corridors, staircases, living rooms or bedrooms.
Over the years many books are collected and some maybe laying around here and there or stored in boxes. Take a day to find the place to make your bespoke dream library? A library brings a lot of ambiance in your home and it will give you options to dream away in a comfy corner with one of your books.
Art work
The choice of arts can portray something about you. The budget will dictate if you can afford a paintings, drawings of photography of your preferred artist. There are options for prints which you can find on-line. Or make a tour in town and visit some art galleries. Upcoming artists will sell their works much cheaper than the popular artists. If you have small children then it will be easy to create an amazing wall with their works and you can replace them every few months.
the constant mess
Every home needs at least one personal corner, where you can connect with yourself and do the things that inspire you. Don't be concerned about a bit of clutter there. What is clutter for one person is a story for another person. Your home should be you!
A home will always change in time. You will be constantly making changes. Children grow up and you find new hobbies. These events will reflect the essence of who you are. You should create the space that you enjoy and be happy to share it with the people that you spend your time with. Don't worry if it doesn't look perfect. Remember you are simply creating for your enjoyment.
