When I think of the Provence there are a few things which come immediately to my mind; the lavender fields, painted furniture, or with a patine, a joyful mix of patterns and a relaxed way of living. Enjoying the moment.

Some lavender in our bedroom will give us a relaxed night sleep. During the holidays or in the weekends we can stay a bit longer in bed and just reflect on the day to come, no rush today. We need this time to re-wind, recharge our energy for the week or months to come. The days are hot and the nights are still warm, so we also don’t have the energy to rush through our days, Decorating the bedroom in a Provencal style is bringing a bit of this feeling in the house as if you would be in a manor surrounded by trees. The morning light coming in, filtered through the delicate linen curtains. Painted furniture, a mix of patterns in a typical Provencal color harmony.

The colors are muted, grayish pastels, nothing to shock the eyes in the morning, the sun will soon be high in the sky and will enhance the colors of nature around us. Add a big classical mirror in the bathroom, and think out of the box for the washbasin furniture. Use a chest of drawers or a console table to create an unique setting. Just take care that the final height is not getting to high, this should be around 85 cm. And did you ever thought of having a small bouquet of flowers in the bathroom? Try it, you will see. You can start the day with a relaxed bath or you prefer this in the evening with some scented candles?

Specially in the mornings it feels amazing to spend time in the garden, pick the herbs you need later for cooking and prepare some to dry so you can enjoy also your homegrown herbs during winter to flavor your Mediterranean dishes. The high ceilings, thick walls and white painted interior will keep the house cool during the warm days of summer. You can continue the same floor material you use on the terrace for the floor in the kitchen and create a continues look.

After enjoying a breakfast on the terrace you are ready to get out and go to the market, discover new spices, find those amazing tomatoes for lunch, or go home with olives and French cheeses to enjoy later in the day with a glass of wine. We finally have time to enjoy life, to look around us and discover new things. Look around you, as it would the first time you are somewhere, even when it is your own neighborhood you will be surprised to see what you discover on your way.

No nicer feeling than to finish a day with a nice dinner al fresco. Now that you have more time try out some new recipes; easy ones because you dont want to spend to much time behind the cooking stove. Pay more attention to the table setting. Mix your plates, use some beautiful cotton or linen napkins. Feel the Mediterranean vibe right where you are. Add some herbs in small vases on the table, and candles will make your long evenings just perfect.
