Summer in Capri Style

Summer time, summer time, summer time….. water, sun and fun. What do we want more? July and August are the months to get out of town and to get refreshed close to the water. But for most of us the holidays are just two weeks and the rest of summer we work and try to enjoy as much as possible in the weekends.

There are places that immediately makes us dream away. Capri is one of them. It is situated in the south of the Gulf of Naples and has been a resort since 500 BC. At the end of the 19th century artist, writers and celebrities would spend the summer months on the island. Still today Capri has this touch of glamour with some exquisite hotels and a lot of designer shops.

Let’s get inspired and bring this touch of glamour to our home. Blue and white are the colors to go for, add still another color and you will create a modern, sparkling and refreshing interior. To enjoy all year long, not just during our annual two week holiday. The interior of Gelato Buonocore, the historic gelateria and pastry shop in the center of Capri can inspire you for your kitchen, a classical style in a modern color is timeless. Take also a close look at, no… not the pastries, the colorful tiles on the floor.

You can get by ferry to Capri from different cities along the coast. Sorrento is one of them, Sorrento is also a classical destination when you want to enjoy the holidays with real Italian flair. Sorrento’s Parco dei Prinicipi Hotel is a great place to get inspired if you love the style of the 60’s - 70’s. It was designed in the beginning of the 70’s by Gio Ponti and it still feels very modern. The graphical design of the interior is very trendy these days and you can find a lot of options for this type of ceramic tiles to decorate your kitchen, bathroom or why not, even your living room if you have a summer retreat at the seaside.

When we think of the Italian seaside and islands we can get lost by the idea of those classical villas, they all tell a story. Modern interiors can very well too express this feeling of relaxation, and will be much more refreshing as they are “easy going”. We don’t need to much during summer, just the essentials. White and blue will always be the colors to go for; white for a fresh start and blue as a relaxing color. What do you say to add a bit of folklore to those minimalist interiors? I think those typical ceramic tiles are a perfect mix.

Casa Malaparte, conceived around 1937 by the Italian architect Adalberto Libera for Curzio Malaparte. The house is situated on the eastern side of the island and can be reached by foot, a one and a half hour walk from Capri’s Piazzetta or reached by sea. The house was abandoned and neglected after Malaparte’s death in 1957. They started renovations in the 80’s. A lot of the original furniture is still in place as it is to big and heavy to move out. The modern and contemporary architecture not only inspired Jean-Luc Godard for his movie Le Mépris in 1963, it can be still an inspiration for a contemporary interior design.
