At the beginning of the year, we take a moment to look back at what has been. We also look forward to what will be, as we look for new opportunities, or maybe even consider the dreams we want to chase in the next few months. We look for trends: what to wear, to eat, where to travel and how to decorate or re-decorate our home.
So let us take a closer look at the new trends you will see in 2025.
Formal Living room
Specially after the pandemic our living room became the room to relax, watch movies. Time to take another look on this room. We are back to having family and friends over and a more formal living room looks more elegant and sophisticated. We take care about the quality of the furniture, specially to have comfortable sofa and armchairs. Important is how to arrange those. The tv is no longer the focus point. Sofa and armchairs are arranged around the coffee table so you can enjoy each others company.
Sofa and chairs are elegantly covered with a nice, textured fabric that enhances their comfort and style. The coffee table can be crafted from sleek glass or, alternatively, a beautiful piece made of high-quality wood, adding warmth and character to the overall decor.
Some nice artworks or framed mirrors are enhancing the ambiance. Another important point in the living room is the lighting: a ceiling light, to lighten the whole room when needed. Table lamps and wall scones to create a warm ambiance.
This living room will have the perfect atmosphere for both entertaining and relaxation.
Dining room re-designed
Maybe a contradiction: the living room gets more formal, the dining room more relaxed. Is it because we have friends over for easy dinners and we want to stay longer around the table? The inspiration comes from the hotel lobbies and restaurants where they provide more relaxing armchairs.
Important to keep in mind that all seats have to have the same seat height. This in case you would combine the armchair with a bench. But don’t make it to comfortable, you don’t want your armchair to be to low and to deep. You still want to be able to eat in an elegant way. Take also care for the height of the table in case your chairs / armchairs would be lower than standard chair, height.
Choose an elegant fabric, easy to maintain.
Creating a dining room that features comfortable armchairs will provide you with a more inviting and cozy setting.
Statement Ceilings
For years we had the accent wall, now the ceiling will be the focal point. Taking more care about the design of the ceiling will also elevate the overall design of your room.
There are a lot of options for a statement ceiling. Painted in a bold color to provide a refreshing contrast with the neutral walls or wallpaper. Wallpaper on the ceiling to create an inviting visual impact.
More classical, still very interesting, could be a coffered ceiling or a vaulted ceiling to add depth and dimension. Keep in mind the overall style of the room, it should be in harmony.
A statement ceiling is more than an aesthetic choice, it can redefine the character of the room. A great way to give a complete new look to the space, but I would not suggest to use it when your ceiling is low seen it will visually lower the height of the space.
Color Drenching
Color drenching is a powerful tool that can significant influence the mood and atmosphere of any space. It offers endless possibilities for creative expression.
How to implement? You can choose a color and apply it to walls, ceiling and doors. You can create depth by choosing other shades of the same color for the furniture and sofa.
Depending on the color you can transform the room by making it feel larger or more intimate. Warm colors will give an inviting look to the room. Cooler colors will evoke tranquility.
Special attention here as lighting plays an important role. Check your color, natural light and artificial light can alter the feel or intensity of the color.
Chenille
Boucle was the fabric to go for, for the last seasons, now chenille is taking over. Chenille has a velvety texture, it adds softness. It has a distinctive look, is made from cotton, wool or synthetic fibers. It had already a popularity in the past thanks to its ability to combine comfort and visual richness.
It is a fabric that makes me think back of the 70’s and childhood memories.
Wallpaper
Wallpaper will remain popular in 2025. The accent wall, a big trend for years, is now a thing of the past. Now the focus is on adding wallpaper on all the walls in the room. No surface in your home is safe, even the ceiling will be decorated with wallpaper. creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere.
Murals and scenic wallpapers are leading this year’s trend.
You like the idea of wallpaper but having such an important scenery all around is to much for you? There is a rise in popularity for natural materials too. Think structured walls, brush strokes, silk, moire. For every interior style you can find the perfect match.
Irregular rugs
Every industry needs to find ways to re-invent themself, to inspire people to buy something new. In the rug industry they have been working with different techniques, different materials and structures. Now we see in every collection some irregular rugs. They get more palyful as soon as they get away from the rectangular or square shape. More graphical, combination with different fibres, long and short piles combined. Wool stays the best choice as material, natural beauty and ensures easy maintenance. Non-allergenic and fire-resistant which helps to create a safe and healthy indoor environment, and also it has a natural ability to resist dirt.
This trend is perfect for modern and young interiors.
70’s Chic
The 70s chic aesthetic is characterised by a variety of earth tones, bold patterns and distinctive round shapes. Natural wood elements in mid tones are widely used to enhance an organic feeling. Brick walls can add a lot of character to the space, used in a clean look, different from the raw bricks typically associated with the industrial style. Luxurious materials such as velvet and chenille for comfort and elegance. Walls and ceiling are often covered with wood, and terracotta floors provide a
Metals
Last year chrome was making a comeback in our interiors. metals are not new, but they take more and more place in the interior design world. Metal finish on wallpaper, metal covered furniture in kitchen and bathroom. The metals can have a patina, a rusty or mat finish.
Metal can seem cold in designs. However, mixing it with materials like wood, velvet, or softer textures can create a warmer and more inviting atmosphere.
One type of metal I would no longer propose to clients is the rose gold.
I would no longer recommend rose gold to clients. It was a trend a few years ago but disappeared immediatley after one year.
Tiles
Since a few seasons the porcelain and ceramic suppliers are providing those amazing big tiles with the marble look. They are everywhere now and will still be there for a while. They will get an evergreen.
Personally, I feel the desire again to use “normal” tiles, They have been put a bit on the side lately but we can find tiles with precious finishes, or intricate motifs. Just to think about, we don’t all have to have those minimalist inspired bathrooms.
So, in case you want to decorate one of your rooms
the living room gets more formal
the dining room more relaxed
pay attention to the ceiling, this can have a great impact to the overall feeling of the room
not sure how to combine colors, in that case color drenching is for you
forget about boucle, go for chenille
wallpaper is still around: or some sonic wallpapers or more the feeling of textile on the wall
need a new rug? go for an irregular shape if your style is contemporary or modern
metals to give a sophisticated look to the space
70’s chic in earthy colors and round shapes
think of the option of smaller tiles versus the big tiles in marble look
