Folklore can be a wonderful way to start decorating, offering an authentic touch that helps set the mood instantly inside your home. A traditional color combination of red and green is essential for achieving that classical, cozy atmosphere.

The gifts are getting wrapped in a classical printed paper and finished with a beautiful satin or velvet ribbon. Adding some small items, such as a small Christmas globe, a handwritten tag, can only enhance the joy of receiving a gift prepared with so much attention. Maybe you still have some Christmas decoration from your parents or grandparents to add a nostalgic touch. Or make a tour in town, visiting some antique shops to find some accents to create this old-fashioned look.

Simmer on the stove some fruits with spices, and your house will soon be filled with an amazing, cozy winter perfume. Baking cakes and cookies will lift your spirits and gently put you in the right mood to start thinking about the Christmas menu.

I also loved this image with the hand-painted wallpaper of De Gournay. It has a pleasantly old-fashioned, traditional feel and will suit the holiday mood very well. The colors remain rooted in tradition, yet feel somewhat fresher than the one from the folklore inspired look.

Gift wrapping can be more than simply enclosing an item in paper. Choosing a pretty fabric envelope feels original and thoughtful, and they can still use it afterwards for keeping things nicely organised or serving as a small travel bag. This soft look is more feminine, gentle and gives a cozy feeling.

Some of us are real Christmas fans and will have they special plates for this time of the year. In case you would like to have some new porcelain that makes a difference at your Christmas dinner, a plate with a small red or green touch will be the perfect addition to your homeware, and you can still use them throughout the year. We don’t need to cut down a whole tree to have the feeling of Christmas into the home, just a simple branch will do, add some nice Christmas globes and the mood is set.

Not everybody likes this traditional look, perhaps a more dramatic approach suits your style. If you live in a darker interior or found inspiration in the color drenching trend, this is for you. The color palette will lean towards deep, saturated tones to create this moody ambiance.

This dark mood calls for a more eclectic approach. Think imaginatively to get some new decorating ideas. Those beautiful folded paper Christmas ornaments, trimmed with glitter along the edges, will brighten and elevate any Christmas arrangement you create. They feel both bold and elegant at once. And if you still have a bit of time, try making some yourself. You can find plenty of inspiring ideas and tutorials to explore on Pinterest..
