We are mid of December, time is flying. Are you also rushing still to get all things done before you can enjoy a nice holiday? We should stand still for a moment and reflect on the traditions of the Christmas period. Time for family traditions, religious celebrations. Wherever you live in the world, there is something about Christmas time that is absolutely magical.
Last weekend before Christmas, is the perfect moment to go with you family to your local Christmas tree farm, or the Christmas market. Your kids will love to be involved in your family's traditions.
It can be the favorite period of the year: family together, no school, homework or deadlines at work. If we travel we do it best a few days before Christmas, you never know if the weather will force you to delay your trip with a day and you don't want to miss Christmas eve. It will be a welcome relaxing time after a hectic year.
Time to learn some Christmas songs, or in case you are not a talented singer, you can count me in, you can play some Christmas music throughout the house. It will bring you in the perfect mood to wrap presents, or prepare your shopping list for the Christmas dinner.
Christmas is a time of traditions, but feel free to break those traditions and start some new ones. Why not having dinner in the green house instead of the dining room? Add some candles, the greenery around and maybe the stars in the night will make it a very special evening. You don't need the traditional Christmas tree, give it your personal touch.
Spend time with others to celebrate. You will serve a classical Christmas dinner with roast turkey or you will make it more personal? More important than an impressive dinner is to get together with people you love, make this time of the year a little warmer by sharing the warmth of caring with them. This year I feel the mood for simplicity, warmth and nature.
We get so overwhelmed these days with a lot of ideas how to celebrate these holidays that we forget to stand still and reflect on all the good things which have been happening in our life. Celebrating Christmas should not be about spending to much money on presents, eating to much, over-decorating the house. It could be a time of simplicity, enjoying the company of your family, reconnect with friends, do things fun with them outdoors. It is always great to get out of the house and breath in the fresh air. And to come back in afterwards and smell the open fire, or the cake coming out of the oven.
Still a few days before Christmas, time to start wrapping the gifts. Wrap them all in the same paper, it will look much better than each gift in another type of paper.Take some very simple craft paper and embellish it with a personal touch: a colorful ribbon, some green leaves cut in the garden, a note, a gift tag..... let your creativity go.
Being cheerful during the Christmas season will help in spreading the real spirit of Christmas to those around you. The possibilities for Christmas decoration are nearly endless. You can start by hanging a homemade wreath on the entrance door, some mistletoe in the doorways, a garland or a decorated Christmas tree, complet with lights and candles.
Let the Christmas time been filled with cheer and wonder. Create your own traditions or simply enjoy the traditions which have been passed down in your family.
still a few days to:
- wrap your gifts
- make shopping list for Christmas dinner
- plan your agenda to set up meetings with family and friends
- prepare the Christmas decoration
Let yourself be a kid again and enjoy this special time of the year. Indulge in a little holiday tradition and give into the magic. Wish you already a Merry Christmas!
