Christmas Time !

Are you also counting down till the Christmas holiday? Did you notice that people started to decorate their house and putting up the Christmas tree much earlier this year? We are looking forward to the tradition and coziness of what Christmas in general is offering. Even that Christmas will be different this year for most of us.

Tradition will put the tone when starting to decorate the house for the holidays to come. No fancy decorations, not looking to do something different, we go this year for tradition, classical Christmas colors; red, green, white. Maybe with a touch of some silver or gold. But that it is. If you are lucky to have still some real traditional Christmas decorations, from your childhood, than you are one of the lucky ones.

Beside tradition we are looking for simplicity. After all this time in the pandemic we realize that it are the simple things that brings us pleasure. The joy starts when arriving home after a day of work and see some decoration right at the entrance door. This year, no need to impress your guests as in a lot of countries we will celebrate the holidays this year just with the family.

And let’s dream of a white Christmas. I have my childhood memories of running out in the crisp snow, the last years we hardly have snow. Maybe you live in a part of the world where a withe landscape is a part of the Christmas celebration. Getting out for a walk, coming home and have a hot cocoa in front of the open fire. The perfect start for a relaxing holiday.

Christmas is a time of creating memories with the family, no nicer way to do that as by decorating the Christmas tree all together. Did you ever bake cookies, decorated them and than hung them in the tree? Or to dry some orange or apple slices to fill the whole house with this amazing smell. You create an instant holiday feeling.

For the moment I’m still in quarantine after traveling home last weekend. I can’t wait to get out and see what I can find as branches, green leaves and some rose hip. Love to start decorating the house. Shopping for Christmas gifts is a bit more difficult this year. Looking for on-line shopping is an option, don’t forget to buy local. Even better is to make something yourself. Or you can offer an experience, even better than a present. Get creative, think out of the box, surprise your loved ones.

This is the time for sweets, pralines and cakes. Let’s take a look for some old-fashioned cakes and cookies. Decorate them, have fun. Perfect to do around the kitchen table with the kids on a rainy afternoon. You can enjoy them afterwards when playing a game or watching a Christmas movie.

And than Christmas evening comes: time to decorate the table, take out the candles, a lot of candles. In the morning you start with putting a pot on the stove with oranges, cinnamon and some pine branches. Let it simmer all day and the house will be filled with the perfect Christmas fragrance.

This year we go for

  • tradition

  • red and green

  • take out the Christmas decorations from your childhood

  • start baking cookies and cakes

  • enjoy those days with the family

  • watch some old Christmas movies
