Christmas celebration…. what comes to your mind? Childhood memories, the excitement of unwrapping gifts, dark and short days, lots of cooking and laughter. It is a time to indulge, in all senses. A time of being together.
The sight of Christmas
We start decorating our home in the beginning of December, the show windows in town are getting dressed up for the holidays, the streets get a glow in the evening when the Christmas lights twinkle all night. What is the sight of Christmas for you? A Christmas tree decorated with your favorite Christmas decoration? Green in combination with the traditional red, or you can combine it with your favorite colors. No better way to lighten the dark evenings with candles, go for some scented candles with the typical Christmas fragrance. And not to forget the gifts for your loved ones under the Christmas tree.
The smell of Christmas
Opening the front door and the smell of a potpourri simmering on the stove, there is no better way to welcome your guests. Cinnamon, orange and pin are the ingredients to go for. Did you try drying orange slices in the oven ? Soon the smell will fill your home. And not to forget the freshness of the pine tree.
The taste of Christmas
For me the taste of Christmas are sweets; home baked cookies, panetone and not to forget mulled wine. When you prepare them they will also fill your home with a very sweet scent. Every country has its traditions for Christmas. I’m celebrating with my family on Christmas Eve, other start celebrating after midnight. For me the important thing is the be together with my family to celebrate Christmas, remembering the birth of our Savior.
The touch of Christmas
I asked a time ago some friends : what is for you the touch of Christmas? The branches of a pine tree, velvet ribbons, wrapping gifs, making your own Christmas decorations. It is the time of year to gather and be creative. I organized a Saturday afternoon with friends to embroider some napkin rings. I’m ready to decorate the Christmas Eve table. Setting the table is for me also apart of enjoying the event: taking out some nice table linen, adding small candles and green leaves on the table.
The sound of Christmas
Christmas carols, in some regions people get dressed in their folkloric costumes and go from house to house to sing their carols. The sound of burning wood in the open fireplace. And when you here the sledge arriving you can start dreaming of meeting Santa Claus, bringing you a bag full of gifts.
Enjoy the holidays even more this year, enjoy with all your senses.
