How to Create a Relaxing Home

First days of January, a new year, a fresh start. I always enjoy preparing for the Christmas period but I’m even more happy when the hectic of the end of the year celebration is behind me and I can get back to my normal schedule and to find a relaxed home when I enter the door in the evening. And not only at the beginning of the year, so let’s see how you can create a relaxing home.

Bring nature inside your home

Going to the seaside, making a walk in the forest are things we enjoy because they clear our mind. So, bring nature inside your home: use green and blue tones. Plants also have the advantage that they can clean the air in your room. No green fingers? Add a picture of plants, wallpaper with green leaves are still very trendy. Paint a wall in a light green or bue tone. You see, there are a lot of options to bring the idea of nature inside and create a relaxing interior.

Get organized

What can bring more joy than entering a room well organized? Exactly! So get started by taking a good look and declutter room by room. No idea how to start? Take a look and discover all about Marie Kondo, she is the queen of decluttering. Once everything has found its place it will be much easier to find things back, work in the kitchen, get your cleaning done. And you will have more time to discover some new hobbies.

Natural colors and materials

Use different textures to create a very sophisticated interior and make neutral colors more appealing. Play with shades of beige tones, add accents, some cool and relaxing colors as green or blue or more warm tones as mustard and burned orange. All depending your personal preferences. Natural materials, such as wood and stone are more inviting and warm than manmade materials. The touch of wood, cotton velvet or heavy linen are bringing joy.

Create the right ambiance with light

Who doesn’t like a home with big windows to let as much as possible natural light inside? In the city this is sometimes a luxury. Transparent shades or shutters can temper the sunlight in summer. In the evening and during the darker days of the year we need artificial light. Take care to have different sources of light fixtures. You need a central ceiling light to lighten the room. Wall lamps, table lamps and standing lamps will bring ambiance or focus in the room. Take also good care not to go for cold white light, it will not bring you in a relaxing mood.

Layers of fabric

Layers of fabric, structures, and different materials will bring warmth in the room even when all in white or very light natural tones. Just think of a thick woolen white blanket, wrapped around your shoulders, sitting in a corner with a book and a cup of tea. Create a cozy feeling, specially in winter, but even in summer a pile of pillows on the sofa will invite you just hang out.

Sound proof

Coming home; gone the stress of the day, the hectic of traffic and arriving home where all the noise is left behind you once you close the door. Add some decorative acoustic panels to absorb the noise. The days we had our CD player and some speaker are far behind us, so many ways to surround you now with your favorite music. Going from portable speakers, to a system integrated in the whole house. I just discovered the modular speakers of Bang Olufsen: perfect sound and very decorative.
