Your Girl is a Princess? Let's decorate her Room.

I think every little girl dreams of being a princess, a real princess. As an interior designer I know that most girls, at a certain age, want a pink girlish room. A princess room, if not ballet shoes will do too. What do you do as a mother? You give in or you try to show them that there is more than pink. One thing is good to know: it will be a phase in their young life. In the worst case it will take till their college years.

A real princess dreams of living in a castle, meeting her prince and living happily together. A canopy bed is a must, the bed crown can be in wood or cast iron, painted white. With a light linen fabric to drape it around the bed you will create the perfect look. The furniture can be classical, exactly as they see it in the movies. Keep the colors neutral and add wood to give it a more contemporary touch. The patina on the furniture will give it a more vintage look. Add an antique mirror to finish the room and make your princess the happiest person in the world.

A modern princess

You don’t become a princess, you are born as one. Our modern little princess will be all in love with the big flowers. Choose a wallpaper with a classical flower print but in stronger colors and big motifs. It will make a perfect match with modern and minimalist furniture. Choose well all the fabrics and other textiles in the room; let them be fluffy and soft. Velvet pillows, linen curtains in strong pastel colors .As we have now quite a modern look, take extra care of the details: add some animals, butterflies, and use your imagination.

Not every little girl is into pink flowers, she will find animals and nature much more interesting. She has a sense for nature and pink is not for her, Natural colors, green tones, yellow to brighten up the room. Create a room with a mid-century look and your princess will be very trendy. Did you notice the ceiling lamp? Yes, we need to give her some pearls!

It is written in the stars

Stars and crowns are a must for a princess. Let your little girl dream, decorate the room with pastel colors, make it super girlish. You can find an old wardrobe, paint it with flowers or apply some wallpaper. Even the inside of the wardrobe can have another color or can be finished with a romantic wallpaper. A vintage princess will love those grayish pastel tones, mix them up. A white cast iron bed and bedlinen with a floral print will make her feel as in a movie. Create a room where she can be creative and express her love for a different world. She lives with her head in the clouds and dreams loud out of a life different from the ordinary. Let her be, let her be not just a princess but a queen.

How many mattresses did the princess have? A lot. Put different mattresses one on top of the other. Cover each of them with another fabric: they can be plain, stripes, or with a floral print. Go to the local fabric store and look for fabrics that can make a nice match. Often they will have a fabrics that match perfectly together as fabric manufacturers develop their collection around a theme so people can combine them without fear of making a mistake. Add a wallpaper with stars or a modern rug with a big oversized motif. Let your princess live her fairy tale life.

Is good that they are not all the same, some have a strong character from young age. Let them express their personality, let them be creative. Give them all the space they need. You can go for muted pastels and even darker colors. Vintage furniture, handcrafted objects and an old-fashioned wallpaper will create the perfect room for her, it should not be to trendy.

When decorating your princess’ room, or better, every kids’ room: let them decide with you what they would like to have as colors or style in their room. Their personality will change, their interests will change. Decorating a kids’ room should be done on a budget, as you will be redecorating their room a few times before they leave to college.
