Some accent walls in a stronger color will make the room more vibrant. All walls painted in a strong color and combined with colorful furniture you have to do with a lot of confidence. One color should be the main color which can come back in different shades, than you need another color in a much smaller amount to bring a certain depth to the room. And than you need some other colors, or just one, in small amounts as an accent.

All white walls, white furniture can be much to cold but what do you use if you don’t feel comfortable with to much colors? Play with neutral tones. Neutral tones you can divide in two groups: cold and warm neutrals, grey tones are cold and beige tones are warm. So lets go for a lot of white, paint one wall in a warm or cold neutral tone and afterwards you can create depth the same as you would do when using strong colors. But here you stay in neutrals, and why not, just give it a try and add a small amount of a color you really like.

What kind of ambiance do you want in your home?

Light colors will make the room look bigger, dark colors will create an intimate ambiance. Use light colors when the room is small and not a lot of light is falling in. Dark colors will make the room look smaller which can be a good solution if you feel the room is to big. I like dark colors for a bedroom, an entrance is also a room where you can use a color which you won’t use in a living room, as it would be to strong or to dark. An entrance is a room where you can make a statement, you pass through this room when arriving at home or leaving in the morning.

Painting the ceiling in a dark color can be amazing when your ceiling is more than 3 meters high. Don’t do this in a modern apartment where the ceiling often is not higher than 270 cm, you will only create a feeling that the ceiling is falling on your head. Visually the ceiling will look lower than it is in reality.

And once you established your color harmony than you can start developing a mood board to see where and how you would use the colors. The paint for the walls can come as a dark or light background for the furniture. The furniture can come in strong contrast with the wall, or you would prefer more shades of one color with a small color accent.
