We understand even better now how fragile our world is. The last year started with a lot of wild fires in Australia. We forgot quickly about them as the Covid pandemic filled our newspapers. We have to respect our environment, use natural materials and think twice before you buy something. Do you need it? Is it sustainable? And there are a lot of young designers who come with a lot of amazing design objects. Yes, than it is difficult to say no, I know.

We are human beings and we all need to feel secure, comfortable and are looking for a cozy home. The world became a colder place to live as we have less social contacts and giving or getting a hug is getting a luxury. Warm colors will take over from the cold colors we have seen a lot the last years. Let the grey and blue tones be and go for earthy tones; they will comfort you, ground you and give you the embrace you miss.

Warm colors

Combine those warm colors in an amazing mono-colored room. Play with shades, use different materials and structures to make this room look very sophisticated. You will create a space where you will continue to discover the small differences. Surprise in a soft and elegant way. Warm colors have also something more feminine than cold colors.

House plants

Plants have been around now since a few seasons and we are not giving up on them, Fill your house with plants, it is relaxing to see so much green around you and it has a lot of health benefits, another reason to enjoy them. No green fingers? No problem there are some amazing murals that will give you the feeling you are in the middle of nature. I would say: give up on the exotic palm leaves and go for a mural .

Ok, I see you: not again about the home office. Yes, it will still be a part and will stay a part of our interior. It can be a separate room or a corner in a room, Decorate this space as you decorate the other rooms in your home. With all the attention for colors, details and decoration. Don’t forget to make it practical, specially when it is a corner in a room. Invest in a cabinet where you can hide everything in the evening.

We got so used to book a plane, find an amazing boutique hotel and just leave for a long weekend. Than we came home and were completely in love with the room where we had just spend some beautiful evenings. What makes those boutique hotels so amazing? They are decorated with an eye for a lot of details. Normally we wouldn’t start combining so many different motifs in wallpaper and fabrics, but once you see how astonishing this can be we only need to get the confidence to do it also at home. The best advice I can give here is to stay with maximum 3 colors and stay with them for all your prints. It will look stunning!

Wood has been missing for a long time in kitchen and bathroom, but you will see when you start doing some research for your new kitchen that wood will be all around. Often in combination with marble. You don’t have to make the whole kitchen in wood in case it would give you the impression that you would be on the country side, in that case combine it with painted cabinets. And you will have a kitchen that will be trendy now and will never be out of fashion. Wood is such a warm material, feels and shows the beauty of nature.

After years of light wood finishes we will see that dark wood in on it’s way back in the interior. Same for the classical wood floors with their graphical patterns. Perfect to combine with modern furniture. A darker wood essence will bring a warm mood in the room, it combines perfect with those earthy tones and warm colors.

Marble / Marble look
