A Color Study of Autumn

We start feeling autumn as it slowly takes its place. The temperatures are dropping, evenings grow darker much earlier and the morning light arrives later. I love autumn, the warmth of summer is replaced by different kind of warmth, one that wraps you as it puts a warm blanket across your shoulders. The light is not longer so bright, colors become more muted, and soon the green leaves will surrender to the warm colors so typical for this season.

Slowly all activities are moving back indoors as the weather cools. We begin preparing for the darker days and longer evenings. Autumn can be a perfect season to find new inspiration to decorate your home. The dark greens shift into burned orange, dark red and glowing golden yellow.

Use brass elements to lighten up the space. Natural materials, such as a dark marble paired with darker wood essences, provide the perfect backdrop to create this moody ambiance in your home. A high-lacquered surface can reflect additional light, mixed with natural leather and a fluffy mohair and you are ready for the next cooler months.

This bathroom will be as a cocoon where you unwind after a stressful day at the office. No need to worry that a white bathroom will give you a shock when waking up in the morning.

Combine natural materials with colorful zelliges tiles; brass or copper faucets are the perfect choice to introduce a warm note to the room. Today there are hundreds of options for colorful sanitary fixtures and washbasins. Go bold, decorate the bathroom as you would do any other room in the house.

Personally, I love the misty light of early morning in the mountains, the greyish tones blend beautifully with the warmer shades of the leaves. This atmosphere feels noticeably cooler than the exuberant glow of an the Indian Summer. As if subdued light is preparing you for the winter months ahead.

Here a mohair velvet or a bi-colored tweed fabric are perfect to warm up the ambiance. And keep those fluffy blankets close at hand to keep your feet warm on a chilly evening. Time to bring out the candles to bring a soft ambiance in the evening, and soon you will recognise that choosing the right ambient lights makes all the difference.

Autumn is a season where everything still feels possible, a time to get away for the weekend and be outdoors, or to linger inside with a good book and relaxed dinners with friends. We often feel the need, when the season is changing, to introduce something new to refresh the space, sometimes that can be as simple as swapping the summer pillows for cozier winter versions.

Just go wild combining all those colors around you, and pair stripes with floral motifs to a make your interior not only cozy but also visual interesting, a place to discover something new every day, even within your own home.

Are you ready for autumn to set in? You do not have to undertake a full redecorating project to bring in the right mood; small changes can make a noticeable difference. If this is “your” season and you are planning to refresh a few rooms or start decorating a new place:

  • get inspired by the colors from nature

  • brass or copper is the type of metal finish for your interior

  • combine natural materials

  • select well all your light fixtures

  • mix up floral designs with stripes and check

Enjoy the final warm days of summer and look forward to the coming season with all its beauty.
